Obituary of Arlene M. Wiedenhofer

Arlene M. Wiedenhofer, 87, of Jamestown, NY, passed away unexpectedly at 9:34 am Saturday, March 9, 2019, at her home. An area resident for most of her life, she was born July 6, 1931 in Dunkirk, NY, a daughter of the late Merle and Lillian Smith Babcock. Before her retirement in 1997, she had worked in the City of Jamestown assessor's office for many years. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and was active with the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Women's Auxiliary. Arlene will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved cooking and baking (aka: the pie queen), winemaking and enjoyed playing dice games and scrabble on line with her grandchildren . She also enjoyed spending time with her friends from the book club and the dinner club. She so enjoyed vacations with the family and special birthday club meetings. Family and "extended" family is what she truly treasured and cherished in her life. Surviving are her four children; Diane Pathammavong of Batavia, NY, Teri Nelson of FL, Gale (Skip Malonson) Loveland of Cape Cod, MA, George F. (Brenda) Wiedenhofer of Jamestown, seven grandchildren; Jason (Mary Ellen) Reardon, Holley Reardon, Arlana Pathammavong, Amy (Josh) Sankes, Craig (Ruth) Nelson, Chad (Jessica) Wiedenhofer, Paul Wiedenhofer, eleven great grandchildren, a sister, Beatrice Maguire of Phil. PA, a brother, Robert Babcock of Dunkirk, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Wiedenhofer who she married June 30, 1950 and who died March 17, 2001, four sisters; Lucille Cornprobst, Joyce Sandhoff, Loretta Babcock, Beverly Doran and two brothers; Junior Babcock and Gary Babcock and two son-in-laws, Todd Loveland and Samlane Pathammavong. A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
