Obituary of Howard M. Foster
Howard "Howie" Merle Foster, 84, of Lakewood, NY, passed away peacefully April 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 28, 1934 in Portland, NY to the late Merle and Evelyn (Swan) Foster and grew up in Jamestown.
Howard served in US Navy from 1954-1956 during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Coral Sea aircraft carrier. He was a life member of the Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion.
He was a well-respected carpenter and learned the trade from his many uncles on Point Chautauqua. Howard specialized in ceilings, floors, and finish work. He enjoyed remarking to family and friends "I put in this ceiling" when visiting stores and businesses throughout the region. He received his 50 Years Service pin as a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union, Local #66.
During the course of his long professional life he, with the help of wife Autumn, built two beautiful homes for his family.
He supported his three daughters and grandchildren by attending their recitals, concerts, sport games and helping with projects. He passed along valuable skills to his sons-in-law. Everything he did was for his family.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Autumn Spiegel Foster. He now joins her to polka dance into eternity with faithful Labrador Prancer waiting for a treat.
He is survived by daughters Lori Foster (Dave Harman) of Rochester; Lisa (Kevin) Morse of Jamestown; Julie (Brian) Stanton of Dayton, Ohio; and grandchildren Kristin Morse, David Morse (Ashton Era), Molly Morse of Jamestown, and Josh Stanton of Dayton, OH.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of his caregivers.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday April 6 in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville, NY.
Memorials can be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society or consider adopting a pet in Howard's memory.
