For Carl's family and friends,
While I live almost 3000 miles West of Jamestown a part of this little town guy never left. It was during that time that I met Carl, and from the beginning it was something special. It was an understanding of our mutual love and respect for the activity involving music and marching, and later the youth doing same
Of course it started when we were both young men. I was in the Salamanca Black Knights and Carl was, at the time, in the Jamestown Vikings. I think!
We both had a respect for each organization, and as the Black Knights improved Cal was even more appreciative. That went on for about four years, and then I was inducted into the Marines. Fortunately for me my musical training got me sent to Washington, and then teaching at Field Music School in Paris Island, SC.
We lost track of each other, and never met again until I brought the Anaheim Kingsmen back to Western New York for some field shows. Carl happened to be there, as he normally would be at big events, and when he saw me he came over after the show and we kept in contact for every year since. When I won my first National Championship in 1971 Carl was one of the first to congratulate me.
Later Carl would bring some of his band members and guard members to our rehearsals ,and it was like all those years that passed never happened. He was so genuine everybody in my group loved talking to him.
To hear that sad news of his passing took my breath, and I had to sit down and just ponder what I had just heard. It couldn't be true. Not Carl!
As we get older it is true we shed tears of joy and sadness and these were the saddest tears in many years.
I thank GOD I knew Carl and I will never, EVER, forget his smile and kindness. We have lost a GREAT person and I know we all miss him for different reasons, but these are tears of sadness. And tears of joy, knowing he is no longer suffering with the illness that took him away.
To all of Carl's family, please accept my condolences! I know you will make this last event as wonderful as Carl would have wanted. PLEASE say goodbye to Carl for me. We have lost a piece of ourselves, but he is at a bigger gathering than we can even imagine. I pray we will meet again.

So sorry to hear of Carl’s passing. I’ve known him since the mid 70’s when the Johnsonburg Diplomats and The Gypsy Brass were playing. After all these years, he would always say hello and strike up a conversation. He was truly a gentlemen and a great guy. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I have been recalling the many great years and drum corps that Carl and I have been associated. My greatest memory is when returning from lunch one day and found a new bugle on my desk. I looked up and saw Carl looking on with a smile. I said when is the rehearsal. He did it for me and a long time after. We will all be together again in our forever Drum and Bugle Corps.

Carl was indeed one of the kindest, loveliest men I have had the honour of knowing. He graciously welcomed me into the New York Winter Guard fold so many years ago. As the director of 2-3 guards from Canada I was quiet back then :). Carl was an ever present smile, hug or quick kiss on the cheek and positive words about everyone’s program. Truly a gentleman who loved the activity but more importantly, the kids it served.
My thoughts are with his family who I know are so proud of the legacy Carl has left us.

My condolences to Graceen and Carl's children, as well as all of their extended family and friends, including his cousin Rosemary Giambra Carlson, who is a dear friend of mine. Carl was always a pleasure to be around. His love for drum corps and band was contagious, and he introduced so many to the world of music through those venues. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of his loved ones through the days and weeks ahead. May the good Lord bring you healing, and may all of the wonderful memories this loving man left with so many bring comfort and peace.

Carl will be missed deeply. Carl was a close friend of my Dad. I was blessed when my own children were able to play in the Drum and Bugle corp with Carl over the past 4 years. My kids fell in love with Carl and will miss him very much. Carl did a wonderful speech at my Dad's 70th Birthday that we will cherish forever. God Bless Carl for being such a wonderful person and friend to my family.
