Obituary of Timothy D. "Tim" Ruth
Timothy D. "Tim" Ruth, 55, of Ashville, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born February 24, 1964 in Warren, Pa., a son of Charles E. and Rose Carpenter Ruth.
Tim graduated from Randolph Central School and received his bachelor's degree in 1986 from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa. in Petroleum Geology.
Tim was hired in 1989 by United Refining Company as a Geologist in the Retail Maintenance Department. After many promotions throughout 26 years at the company, Tim was promoted to Assistant Vice President and Environmental Compliance Officer in 2015. He managed the compliance activities for the refinery, terminals and retail operations, as well as participated in project management at the United Biofuels plant in Brooklyn, NY.
While attending Mercyhurst, he played on their NCAA Division III football team as a fullback. During his four years, the Lakers went a combined 25-11-1. He led the team in rushing in 1983, 1984, and 1985. He led the team in scoring in 1984 and 1985. His 80 points in 1985 was a one-year record and he held the record for most career points, 180. Tim totaled eight 100-yard rushing games in his career and held the records for most touchdowns rushing in a season with 13 and in a career with 28. He was inducted into the Mercyhurst University Hall of Fame in 1999.
Tim played many years in area baseball and softball leagues. He also played in the Monday Night Golf League at Cardinal Hills in Randolph where he teamed up with his cousin and best friend, Brian Ruth, for over 30 years. He was also a member of Randolph Masonic Lodge #359.
Besides his mother, Tim is survived by his son Nick (Colleen) Ruth, two daughters Ashlyn and Lauren Ruth; his brother Rusty (Mary) Ruth; his fiancée Stephanie; two nieces Melissa (Brian) Oeters and Amy (Jason) Ruth; and his dog Artemis.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles.
No visitation will be observed. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
