Obituary of Eugene L. Adams
Eugene L. "Gene" Adams, 85, of 1215 Clymer-Sherman Road, Clymer, died Saturday October 12, 2019, in his home.
A native of Churchville, NY, Gene was born September 14, 1934, the son of the late Darwin and Hazel Adams.
He was a 1952 graduate of Churchville-Chili Central School and earned a bachelor's degree in 1956 from Brockport State University.
Gene was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1957-59.
After a year teaching in Warsaw, NY, in 1959 he moved to Clymer, NY to take a full time position teaching. He remained there until his retirement in 1995, during his tenure he was employed by as an Earth Science teacher, class advisor and bus driver. He spent several summers teaching driver's education to students across Chautauqua County.
Gene was a member of Churchville United Methodist Church. A proud member of the National Education Association, he served as local president and regional representative; Gene loved traveling to national events representing and advocating for the teachers of Western NY in places like Los Angeles, Washington DC and New Orleans, LA. He was active in local Republican politics and most recently was the recipient of the Jess Present Award.
Surviving are his wife Catherine Marina Eppolito Adams, whom he married in Leroy, NY June 29, 1963; seven children Dianne (Robert) Witkowski of Victor, NY, Cynthia (Terence) Willis of Rochester, NY, Catherine D. Adams of Clymer, Donna (James) Hedlund of Clymer, Sandra Caracciolo of Buffalo, Julie (Les) Meyer of Lancaster, NY and David Adams of Clymer; grandchildren Ana and Adam Witkowski , Samantha Hedlund, Renee and Joseph Caracciolo, Megan and Hannah Meyer and Anthone', Amaya, Trent and Kylie Willis and two sisters Janet Denton of East Avon, NY and Nancy (Thomas) Rich of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Robert Adams.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Clymer Volunteer Fire Department or Clymer Hill Reformed Church.
