I was so sorry to hear of Dr. Lisciandro's death. I currently live in Florida, so only recently heard the news of his death. I can say honestly 'I loved the man and he had my deepest respect.' Words can not describe how I felt when I was told of his death or can , they in anyway, be of comfort to those who knew and loved him.
He was my children's physician until they were too old to be treated by him; even administering my daughter's physical college entrance exam! with a smile and his natural kindness.
In 2015 and 2016, we had to go back to Jamestown for some personal tragedies and thanks to Dr. Lisciandro making some adjustments to accomadations, we were able to stay at the Oaks as an entire family. The kindness and understanding we received will never be forgotten.
His death is truly a loss to those of us left on earth and a celebration to those already departed.
My deepest sympathies to all his loved ones.
Sincerely,
Diane Reale and family

To Dick's family,
My husband, Bernie, and I moved to Jamestown in 1967 with our son. I believe your family also moved sometime around then. We had taken our 15 - month - old son, who had a problem, to a recommended pediatrician who went on vacation after he was seen on an emergency basis. We were told to go to the new pediatrician in town if another visit were to be needed during this doctor's absence. We took our son to your dad the next day and he immediately knew what the problem was and what to do about it. We switched doctors immediately!
Our families got to know each other after that and became friends. Dick was the kindest doctor and a wonderful friend.
My husband passed away 16 years ago and I moved from Jamestown 5 and 1/2 years ago. I did not know about your father's illness and have just found out about his passing and am so very sorry. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and love. We all have lost a fantastic man. Your memories and pictures will always remind you of your father and grandfather.
Love to all of you, Bernice S Fox

Thank you Bernice for sharing this. He was altruistic in his practice and in life. We learned so much from him as a physician and a father. He was such a strong man. His illness was kept quiet. He fought hard, with so much grace. Thank you for sharing.

Doc was my pediatrician until well past when anyone should still have a pediatrician. I went away to college and med school and would come home and he always treated me like one of his own. Once I had my M.D., he wanted me to call him Dick but I could never bring myself to do it, settling on calling him Doc (ironically when he opened Docs). I have nothing but great memories of him as a doctor a mentor and a colleague. While I have not seen him in years, I will never forget him and what he meant to me. Knowing that he is no longer with us does make me sad. Condolences to Joe and the rest of his family.

Lisciandro Family,
On behalf of the Avery (Audra, Shannon, Shawn, Tara)/Knight (Travis, Tammy, Torry) Families, we are deeply saddened to hear about Dr. Lisciandro's passing. He was our pediatrician for many years. My father, William "Bill" Avery also shared many fond memories of high school days with Dr. Lisciandro.
Please find comfort from the promises found in the Bible at this difficult time. At Revelation 21:4, God promises people a future time when we will never again have to deal with "pain, sickness nor death."
With Deepest Sympathy,
Shannon Avery

It was always such a pleasure to see him, you, Riggs and Riley when we would come back to Chautauqua County. He always made our stay so special and took such great care of us. Dr Lisciandro was a resident when my brother went in at 6 days old. My mother (first time mother) was worried because he was listless. Dr Lisciandro discovered the issue. A piece of skin covering his urethra. He saved his life. The doctor who saw him at birth did not identify this. Anyway, he treated my brother through his entire childhood including a bag, kidney transplants, etc. He was absolutely my #1 choice for my own children long after my brother passed away

Richard and I were friends at JHS, where he preceded me by a year and at the University of Buffalo (then a private university), where we were active in university governance and spent time together on a regular basis. The intelligence, humor and sensitivity that obviously marked his professional career (as reflected by the many comments here) were clearly evident those many years ago. We had not seen each other for decades. But a few years ago, I stopped by the lovely B and B that he had established on West 3rd Street. It was a wonderful opportunity to share distant memories and catch up on life's adventures. I was clearly blessed to have Richard as a friend. Charles H. Gustafson, McLean, VA

I am so very sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Doctor Lisciandro for 23 years at WCA as RN in the newborn nursery and then with him at Jamestown Pediatrics for 2 years before leaving Jamestown to retire in Florida. He was my friend as well as mentor. He treated me and all the staff with respect and kindness. Always a teacher, never critical and always patient. He was so easy to work with during a crisis! I have so many cherished memories of all those years we worked together. I can say he was one of the finest doctors I have worked with throughout my career as a nurse. I often thought I would return to Jamestown and stay at his bed and breakfast but of course I didn't get the opportunity to do that. Please know what a kind and thoughtful man he was. There was no greater comfort than being able to talk to him when your child was sick or knowing that you would be able to bring your child to him whenever he was needed. You just knew he cared. When my children were very young , we saw him at a restaurant and they didn’t hesitate to run up to him and one of them gave him a hug. That spoke volumes to me. Rest In Peace Dr. Lisciandro. Dr Lisciandro was my pediatrician and when I became a nurse I had the pleasure of working with him in Maternity and the Nursery at WCA from 1987 until his retirement.....I used to love to tease him and remind him that he was once my own pediatrician....We would laugh over that from time to time, and he would “thank” me for reminding him.....
He was a pleasure to work with, always pleasant, and kind. Whenever there was a crisis Involving a sick baby, I was always reassured when he was the one responding to the call because he handled those stressful codes with sense and logic. He was a brilliant physician, with knowledge beyond most.....the most humble man, kind, sensitive, compassionate, and patient. He truly was my most favorite physician ever, to team up with, in my career.
In the last 5 or 6 years, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him at The Oaks every summer while he hosted friends that would stay there. I made it a point to visit with him each time and we would “catch up.” During the last 2 years we mostly talked about his illness that he clearly faced with such bravery and fortitude.....I chatted with him 2 weeks ago, and I knew that day was the last time I would ever see him again.....he did too....
My heartfelt condolences are extended to Joe and his children.

I am a better person to have known him.....

One of my responsibilities was to ensure that document was complete and he was usually compliant. When necessary, we had a talk!! It was always in a mutually respectful way. I enjoyed his flowing handwriting and I was able to read most of it. We shared the same birth date, so when I could, I made sure we gave each other good wishes. Dr. Lisciandro was my daughters physician . She needed a surgery to correct severe scoliosis. Her doctors in buffalo prescribed a extremely expensive medicine to be administered by Dr. lusciando and his team. Days before her surgery the insurance company refused to pay for med, they had previously agreed to . Dr. Luscisndro paid for the medicine and told us to pay him back when we could. Now that is a man of character, and that act of kindness will never be forgotten by me or my family. A great, great man!

He was the best doctor there ever was in the city of Jamestown when I was 3 years old back in 1972 he saved my life, he also saved my sister's life,he was both of my kids pediatrician when they were little I love that doctor... I remember my dad telling me that when I was rushed to the hospital dr. Woodard tried to put me to sleep with a severe head trauma and when he came in he was fit to be tied and he actually put back up against the wall and asked him what he was thinking trying to put me to sleep because when my dad rushed me to the hospital my eyes were in the back of my head and my ear is bleeding internally plus other things and the only thing I remember from the whole thing is riding down the hallway in a tricycle ask Dr Lisciandro if I could go home, I think if it wasn't for my dad being a former nurse and and doctor Lisciandro I would have died back then... And he was a heck of a doctor when my daughter was born not being able to eat from a bottle and have a very high jaundice he was very attentive to her and I remember him telling me the day that he called me and told me her the jaundice dropped two very low that he saw guardian Angel and her little incubator with her and I believe to this day it was my dad's mom that passed away one month and two days before she was born... I don't think there will ever be another doctor that was as attentive as he was to his patients.
May he rest in peace

Dr. Lisciandro was my dr as a child, and also my 3 children’s dr as well! He was an amazing and compassionate dr, who always went above and beyond to help every one of his patients.
The world definitely lost an amazing man!

My late husband and I spent many years as friends with Dick (as he was known in the ‘60s)and of course he was our children’s pediatrician.
Although my heart is sad with his passing, I have memories of happier times with him. I will remember him with love and pray that he is resting in eternal peace. Adele Penhollow & Family
