Obituary of Betty F. Carlson
Betty Floceel Carlson, 89, of 370 Delaware Ave., peacefully passed away Aug. 4, 2020, after a brief stay at the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong resident of Jamestown, she was born Aug. 2, 1931, the daughter of the late Abert "Abe" Alfred E. Carlson and Johanna "Hannah" Beata Magnuson Carlson.
Betty was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School. While in high school, she worked at American Incense Company, where she met and formed a lasting friendship with Bessie (Durnell) Gardner of Sugar Grove, PA. After graduating, Betty was employed by T.J. Clarke Box and Label Company (subsequently a division of Mark IV Industries) where she worked as the machine operator for 42 years, until retiring in 1992.
She was a devoted member of the Pennsylvania Grange, joining the Chandlers Valley Grange in 1961, and later, the Brokenstraw Grange of Youngsville. In 2001, Betty's continuous membership was recognized by the National Grange when she was designated as a Silver Star Builder of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry. For many years, Betty was a dedicated election inspector, serving at Persell and Lincoln Schools, and Brooklyn Heights Church polling locations. In recent years, she enjoyed having lunch at Davidson's with friends and family.
Betty was baptized at First Lutheran Church December 18, 1931, and confirmed May 26, 1946.
Miss Carlson was preceded in death by her father November. 8, 1968 her mother January 25, 1961; her brother Robert Brewer Bror Carlson March 11, 1967; sister-in-law Carolyn J. (Maggio) Carlson March. 27, 2016 and her two cousins: Westley P. Peterson January 25, 1992 and Charles Brewer Magnuson January 29, 2007, all of Jamestown.
She is survived by her two nieces: Katherine C. (James) Santiago of Fayetteville, NY, Pamela J. Carlson of Washington, DC; and her late cousins' sons and their families: Fred Peterson of Jamestown, Kurt Peterson of Bemus Point, NY, Peter B. Magnuson of Tucson, AZ and Timothy B. Magnuson of Jamestown.
Private funeral services will be held at Lind Funeral Home, with burial following at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Daniel K. Nagle will officiate.
