Phyllis L. (Champion) Torbjornsen, 71, formerly of Fairmount Avenue, died Tuesday September 22, 2020, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born March 4, 1949, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late John and Henrietta Waller Champion. She was a graduate of Jamestown high School. For many years she was employed by Off Track Betting in Jamestown as a cashier. She was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous with over thirty years of sobriety. She served as house mother at the Birdie Turner Recovery House and was a board member for YANAA. Surviving is a sister Elizabeth Ann Bunnell of Anchorage, Alaska and a family of friends Maria Wilson, Jen Raines and Mark and Marcy Fanale. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Torbjornsen, whom she married November 4, 2008 and who died September 16, 2016 and a brother John Champion.
