Obituary of Donna Lee Johnson

On February 6, 2021, our dearest mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend went with the angels to her home with Our Lord. Donna Lee Anderson Johnson was born on November 29, 1944, to Lois Corinne Turner (1924-2018) and William Fred Anderson (1923-2001) both of Lakewood, NY. As an infant and young child she lived in several states, starting kindergarten in Raleigh, NC, before returning to Lakewood, NY, where she remained for most of her life. When she was three, she was joined by a sister Nancy Kay (1947), (widow to Eugene Cavalier), Belle Vernon, PA. In 1952 her sister Vicki Lynn (partner Brian Van Meter, widow to Roger Kinney), Huron, OH, was born followed by Kim Elaine in 1955 (David Hook), Portage, MI, and in 1957 Todd William (MaryJane Mueller), Berlin Heights, OH. After graduating from Southwestern Central High School, in 1963, Donna attended Highlands Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, NY, where she became a Registered Nurse. In 1966, she married Thomas Johnson, also of Lakewood, and blessed this earth with four beautiful children: Lynn Rae Goering (partner Jon Brockway), Galva, KS, Mark Douglas Johnson (Dara Rinearson), Spring Lake, MI, Scott Michael Johnson (Laura Marks), Avon, NY, and Amy Beth Johnson (significant other Dan Thomson), Lakewood, NY. While raising her family in Lakewood, she also worked as a nurse at Fenton Park Nursing Home and as a director of nursing at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Home. She retired after years as a Supervisor of Nursing at Accredited Care, Inc. and at Chautauqua Opportunities. Donna was known and loved throughout the community and within her family for her generosity, willingness to help and many skills. She was famous for her amazing Swedish rye bread, cookies, and homemade chocolates. Donna knit, did needlepoint, sewed and canned; mostly making beautiful items to give away. She spent many hours as a volunteer at Lakewood Methodist Church. In the later years she became dedicated to her work with genealogy, in an attempt to find her great grandmother. A love of animals was very much a part of who she was. She cared for the strays in her neighborhood and leaves behind two dearly loved cats. In 2019, she moved to McPherson, Kansas, to be near her daughter. It is there she enjoyed another of her numerous passions…everything Swedish! Her family and grandchildren were the love and inspiration for her life. She leaves behind seven grandchildren: Cassidy Goering, Jared Goering, Gavin Johnson, Kyle Johnson (Rebecca Blanchard), Aiden Johnson, Margaret Johnson and Madison Johnson, one great granddaughter Addyson Johnson, along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Walter Arthur Turner (1901-1990), Edna Mae Baran Sturdevant (1906-1993), William E. Anderson (1886-1958), and Mildred A. Richey (1891-1984). She will always be remembered for her gentle spirit and humble journey. Rest in peace dear Donna. "May the choirs of angels come to greet you". May they speed you to "paradise". Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family will receive friends on a walk through basis from 5-8 pm on Friday, February 12, 2021, in the Lind Funeral Home where social distancing will be observed and masks must be worn while inside the funeral home. A private service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Childs, pastor of the Lakewood United Methodist Church will officiate.
