Obituary of John H. Stormer

John H. Stormer, Jr., 96, of 1450 Wellman Road, Ashville, died Tuesday May 25, 2021, in UPMC Chautauqua. He was born May 26, 1924, in Frewsburg, a son of the late John and Neva Blackmar Stormer, Sr. He was a 1942 graduate of Celoron High School and received master's degrees from Fredonia State University and Edinboro University. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving from 1943-46. From 1970 until his retirement in 1993 he was employed at the Hewes Educational Center as a special education teacher, Prior to that he worked for Clymer Central School from 1965-70. In earlier years he and his sister and brother-in-law Mary and Earl Smith owned and operated Nelson's Pie Kitchen. He was a member of Ashville United Methodist Church, Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #145 F&AM, Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Moose, War Vets Recreation, Celoron Senior Citizens, Little Theatre and New York State Retried Teacher Association. He enjoyed going to household sales, gardening, playing cards, square dancing, going to the casino, traveling, collecting "treasures", making pies and cooking, but more than anything he loved the time he spent with family and friends. Surviving are three daughters Deborah (Richard) Bensink of Mayville, Rebecca (Otto) Knoll of Celoron and Amy Jo (Bonnie Smith) Stormer of Lakewood; seven granddaughters Loretta Swanson, Larissa (Lucas) Walrod, Heidi (Jordan) Frame, Monica (Tyler) Annis, Sonia (Paul) Tucker, Debbie Sanders and Michelle Weilacher; five great grandchildren Mackenzie Swanson, Kaden Walrod, Tristan Walrod, Bram Frame, Ember Annis and Aella Annis and three siblings Donald Stormer, Sr. of Florida, Charles Stormer, Sr. of Randolph and Shirley Boutelle of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Joseph Stormer, whom he married July 1, 1951 and who died January 22, 2006; a sister Mary Smith and a brother Robert Stormer, Sr. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
