When I began my ministry at the Covenant Church in Warren, PA in 1980, Dave was one of the pastors who spoke at my reception to the church. He held up the example of his childhood pastor, Rev. Ruben T. Nygren, as an example of the humble and faithful servant that a pastor should be. After the service I was able to share with him that Ruben was the pastor of the church in which I was born and had just had the funeral of my grandfather shortly before he himself died on the church steps after trudging through a snow storm to be in his church office. Dave lived out that faithful pastor example and was an inspiration to me as a young pastor. I am now retired after 42 years of serving Covenant Churches and have always tried to be a mentor to young pastors like Dave was to me. Rev. Randall A. Surey, Moline, IL.

Our heartfelt condolences to David's family. David was my principal at Lander Elementary while I taught Kindergarten and 4th grade there in the mid to late 70's.. He was a wonderful mentor at the start of my teaching career. He was our minister when Greg and I married in 1985 even though he was not the minister at our church...it was important and meaningful for us to have him be our officiant. We stayed in touch with him and Grace over the years, always sending a Christmas card to one another. Feel blessed to have known him and grateful he and Grace are together again. May your memories as well as the love and support be a comfort to you all now and in the days to come.
Most sincerely,
Pam Lyle

Bless his heart I got to know him very well when I was at Lutheran. He was such a kind man and we talked about the army sometimes. Bless him.

Rev. Vennberg was my first principal at Lander Elem. School. He was the perfect person to help a first year teacher. I taught with him for many years. I appreciated his gentle manner and the leadership he gave to his staff. He will be welcomed in heaven with open arms.

My father was also a POW in WWII in Germany and got to know Dave Vennberg through support groups. I had the pleasure of taking Dave and his wife to a POW/MIA program in September 2017 in Erie. My dad and them often went to this particular event as it meant so much to them. When my dad was failing in the Fall of 2017, Dave and his wife came over to visit. What a nice, wonderful, gentleman! He will be missed so much and I am so thankful to have know him. Barb Suckow

Mr. Venman was both my principal and teacher in fourth grade at Lander Elem. He was a very gentle and kind man!
My sympathies to his family! But I'm sure Jesus said, " Well done, my good and faithful servant!" when he entered heaven's gates.

Dave was a constant presence in my life from childhood through the Harold and Jean Landin family of Sugar Grove, PA. “Uncle Dave” was devoted to Jesus, the Church, his spouse Grace and the wider community. He was a Barnabas, “a son of encouragement” to me and many other younger ministers. Well done, David!
