Obituary of Betty M. Johnson
Betty M. Johnson, 96, of E. Virginia Blvd., Jamestown, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 in UPMC Chautauqua.
She was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Glen Lyon, PA, a daughter of the late Stanley Scott and Mary Kanyuck Scott.
Betty was a graduate of Glen Lyon High School and obtained her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating, she began her nursing career at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania. She later moved to Jamestown, NY, and worked in the office of her late husband, Dr. Roy T. Johnson, Jr. doctor's office as an RN. During this time, she was also an officer in the Women's Auxiliary to the American Medical Association.
She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church for many years, where she was involved in numerous groups and activities. She was a member of the choir and handbell chime choir and was on the finance committee. She was involved in the bereavement program, St. Joseph's Table, and helped in various roles at the Italian Festival. She had worked in the Outreach Office for 30 years, retiring last year due to ill health.
Betty enjoyed bowling, playing bocce ball, where she had been on their finance committee. She was a member of the Allen Park Women's Club and traveled extensively. She had traveled worldwide including Alaska, Hawaii, and the Holy Land.
Betty was a loving grandmother who provided support to her family after the death of her daughter-in-law in 2001. She will be remembered for her faith and dedication to St. James Church and her love for her family.
Betty is survived by her son Lynn R. Johnson, her granddaughter Guinevere Johnson, her brother Eugene Scott, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy T. Johnson, Jr. who passed away on Sept. 21, 1988; a brother Alvin Scott; and three sisters: Dorothy Wrona and Stasia Sokolnicki, and Adeline Penders; and her daughter in law Pamela Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2021, in St. James Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5-7 pm on Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:45 p.m.
