Obituary of Arthur W. Samples

Arthur W. "Art" Samples, 86, of 4989 Rt. 474, Ashville, passed away on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021 at home. Art was born Sept. 28, 1934, a son of the late Naomi Fortune and Alton Samples. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was the founder, owner and operator of Art Samples Trees and Shrubs and Trophies & Gifts for many years. He was known by many as "Captain Christmas." Art is survived by his six children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a brother Donald (Vicky) Samples of Kennedy. A celebration of Art's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021 in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville. Honoring Art's wishes, memorials may be made to any children's charity or foundation.
