Obituary of Martha E. Young

Martha E. Young, 66, of Ft. Myers, FL, and Lakewood, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. An area resident for most of her life she was born December 27, 1954, in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late William Gust and Mary Jane Pilkey Erickson. Martha was a 1973 graduate of Southwestern Central School where she was a member of the Trojan Marching Band. She earned her associates degree from Jamestown Community College in 1975 and continued her education by earning her bachelor's degree in criminal justice with high honors from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. Before her retirement in 2014, she was a supervisor for the Chautauqua County Probation Department working from the Jamestown office for 37 years. She was an active member of the Jamestown YMCA where she served on the board for Camp Onyahsa and participated in the masters swimming program. In earlier years she was involved with the big brothers and big sisters' program. She was an avid reader and most importantly loved spending time with her family. Surviving is her husband of 43 years, David W. Young whom she married September 1, 1978, two sisters, Emily (Jay Gould) Runge of Sinclairville, NY, Peggy (Dennis) Erickson-Lamb of Westfield, NY, two nieces, Lorie Runge of Charlotte, NC, Samantha Erickson-Lamb of Westfield, her aunt, Betty Ann Wilson of Westfield and her mother-in-law, Judy Young of Jamestown. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a nephew, Kristin Lamb. A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-5 pm Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Masks are required while inside the funeral home.
