Obituary of Victor Byer Jr.
Victor Byer, Jr. 94 of 220 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, NY died Thursday, March 30, 2023, in his apartment at Brookdale Senior Living
He was born January 12, 1929, in Youngsville, PA, the youngest son of the late Victor and Mary Ksiazkiewicz Byer who came to the U.S. from Poland in 1903.
Before his retirement, he was employed by the former Marlin Rockwell Corp. for over 40 years.
Victor's faith was an important part of his life, and he shared that faith through decades at Hillcrest Baptist Church where he served as usher and Sunday School teacher, and he loved socializing with all the church members. In his earlier years, he attended Grace United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School teacher, usher, choir member, trustee, and on the governing board.
Victor found joy in spending time with his family, friends, tending to his flowers and his vegetable garden, meticulously caring for his home, and playing his harmonica. While at Brookdale, he attended every social event and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds outside his window.
Surviving are his daughter Yvonne (Darrell) DeHaven of Westfield, two sons: Jeffrey (Nancy) Byer of Sumter SC, and Daniel Byer of Albany NY; five grandchildren: Michelle Stephenson, Michael DeHaven, Melanie Smith, Stefanie Touchstone, and Scott Byer; ten great-grandchildren: Kyle, Kaylee, Kaitlyn, Kristen, Karissa, Kellen "Shea," Kenzie, Mabel, Noelle, and Finn; three great-great-grandchildren: Oliver, Rhylynn, and Autumn.
Victor was preceded in death by his wife Joan Byer whom he married June 17, 1950 and who died January 31, 2005. Victor was the last of 13 siblings and liked to joke that he would be the one to "turn the lights out!"
Friends will be received from 5:00 -7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Lind Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday at the church. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Burial will be in Warren Memorial Park in Warren, PA.
Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 40 Hallock St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
