Obituary of Martha S. Crandall

Martha S. Crandall, 96, of Busti, passed away peacefully in her home Monday September 4, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Dewittville, NY, A daughter of the late Otto and Mildred Curtis Stage. Martha was a graduate of Mayville High School. She was a member of the Busti Fire Department Auxiliary, Busti Historical Society, volunteered at the Living Water Food Pantry, Busti Church of God and a part of the Lamp Lighters. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and reciting poems. Martha was a devoted foster mother to 57 children over her 35-years of fostering. She is survived by 8 daughters: Marjorie (Philip) Lindsey, Mary (Charlie) Barlow, Marilyn (Mark) Smith, Marlene (Vince) Feeny, Monica (Kevin) McIntyre, Mae Stanton, Joy (Troy) Hull, Janice Snow; a son Merlin (Debbie) Crandall; 26 Grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a brother Paul Stage. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Merle S. Crandall whom she married July 20, 1946, and who died September 23, 2003; three sisters Louis Malchow, Charlotte Wood, Marie Crandall; a brother Delos Stage. The funeral will be held on Monday September 11 at 11 a.m. at the Lind Funeral Home. Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Busti Cemetery.
