Obituary of Thomas H. Fisher

Thomas H. Fisher, 68, of 30 Everett Ave., passed away Monday evening, Sept. 18, 2023 in his home, surrounded by family, following a 14 year battle with cancer. Tom was born July 6, 1955 in Erie, Pa. and was a graduate of Seneca High School in Wattsburg, Pa. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Fred and Leedona Fisher. A well-known area automobile salesman, Tom had worked for McFadden Ford, Landmark Chevrolet and for many years, Ed Shults Chevrolet. He was a popular disc jockey who hosted his first dance in elementary school with 45's and a record player. "DJ Fish" had played music at Shawbucks for 25 years and for wedding receptions numerous times every summer. Other than his family, Tom's love was sports, whether participating or coaching. He was a star pitcher in high school, pitching every inning of every game one year. He loved golf, played basketball until he was 50 and softball until age 54. A Bill's season ticket holder for 21 years, Tom was a fan of the Yankees and his beloved Pirates, and thought Roberto Clemente was the best player ever. He coached his first Southside Blue Devils football team in 1990 and did so until 2022, coaching the team to a championship clinching win. He also coached youth basketball at the YMCA and youth Babe Ruth teams. He loved coaching his sons and grandsons throughout his many years of coaching. Tom was the husband of Helen Mortimer Fisher with whom he celebrated their 45th anniversary this past Saturday, Sept. 16th. Also surviving are three children: Erin Fisher, Eric (Marisa) Fisher, and Michael Fisher, as well as Ricky Gonzalez whom Tom mentored as a son for many years; his seven grandchildren: Kameron, Colin, Harper, Sophia, Elias, Oliver, and Adeline; and thirteen siblings, including his sister, Lisa Edgar who helped care for him along with his cousin, Leslie Vattimo. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas H. Fisher, Sr., and grandparents Fred and Leedona Fisher. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, led by Tom's cousin, Lee Fisher. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lind's. Memorials may be made to the Tom Fisher Endowment Fund, c/o the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation; or the GoFundMe account set up in his honor during his illness.
