Obituary of John Terrance Walton

John Terrance Walton, 82, died Friday October 20, 2023, in UPMC Hamot, Erie. He was born October 12, 1941, in Salamanca, a son of the late John G. and Josephine Hoffman Walton. A 1960 graduate of Salamanca High School, he had a 38-year career in the railroad industry, retiring from CSX Railroad as a rail traffic Controller. John gave the ultimate gift as an organ donor at the time of his death. A great listener, John lived life to the fullest. His sense of humor kept everyone on their toes and, at times, laughing until the cried. He is loved and respected by so many people. His quick wit and intelligence were beyond compare. We will miss his voice saying, "I'll talk to you later, kiddo." Surviving are five children Nan Backus of Theresa, NY, Lynn (Joey) Magiera of Little Valley, NY, John D. Walton of Memphis, NY, James (Jamie) Walton of Allegany, NY and Jolene Mancini of Fairport, NY; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; stepchildren Tom and Mark Manning both of Bevard, NC and Denise (David) Dickinson of Denver, CO; seven step grandchildren; a brother James (Ruth) Walton of Jamestown and a companion Doris Strawser with whom he made his home. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Penny Bish Walton who died June 10, 2012. A memorial service will be held at noon Monday October30th in the Lind Funeral Home where friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
