Obituary of Margaret M. Nicosia
Margaret M. Nicosia, 98, of Jamestown, died Thursday December 21, 2023, in Millard Fillmore Hospital, Buffalo, NY.
She was a lifelong Jamestown native, born April 29, 1925, a daughter of the late Emilio and Mary Sullivan Panebianco.
She was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School.
For 21 years she was employed by Jamestown Public Schools as a teacher's aide, retiring in 1987.
She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. Her other memberships included Travel Club, Book Club and Bridge/Shanghai Club. She also enjoyed knitting, shopping and spending time with her 3 daughters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many close friends. Margaret was known for her wonderful and warm smile and sunny demeanor. Margaret deeply valued her friendships and was revered and treasured by friends and family, including many former students.
Surviving are three daughters Ann (Dr. James) Burk of Henderson, NV, Cynthia (Rick) Johnson of Encinitas, CA and Mary Ellen (Dr. Gerald) Carlo of Williamsville, NY; six grandchildren Ryan (Eva Deitch) Burk of Beacon, NY, Megan (Trent) Carvolth of Carlsbad, CA, Andrew (Faviola) Johnson of San Marcos, CA, Loren Johnson of Asheville, NC, Dr. Andrew (Amanda) Carlo of Evanston, IL, and Jennifer (Jeffrey) Bieber of Brooklyn, NY and six great grandchildren, as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Nicosia, whom she married August 30, 1947, and who died November 24, 2009; two sisters Joan Cardinale and Josephine "Jay" Papa and a brother Dr. Joseph Panebianco.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday in Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 pm Wednesday, December 27th in the Lind Funeral Home, Jamestown, NY.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
