Obituary of Norman M. Smith
Norman M. Smith, 70, of Ashville passed away Friday April 12, 2024, in his home from his battle with cancer.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 24, 1953, in Jamestown the son of Manford and Natalie Smith.
Raised in Bear Lake PA, Norman was a 1971 graduate of Panama High School, and attended Jamestown Community College. In earlier years he was employed by Jamestown Metal Manufacturing before taking a position with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union for which he held the position of Directing Business Representative until retiring in 2014
He loved spending time with his sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and working on the farm raising beef cattle. Showing through example to his family the value of perseverance, forgiveness, leadership, the shaking of a hand while looking in the eye, hard work, and that family always comes first, following it up with a witty sense of humor. As the lead on the grill for family events, Norman also enjoyed hunting and watching the New York Yankees.
Norman is survived by his loving wife of 50yrs Linda Smith for whom he married January 26,1974; his two sons, Norman (Beth) Smith of Blockville, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Smith of Cherry Creek; Grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Katelyn Smith, Douglas Baker, Daniel Rockwell, Dylan Caldwell, and Cody Thomas; along with 6 great grandchildren; 7 Siblings, four brothers: William Smith of El Paso, Texas, John Smith of Jamestown NY, Wayne Smith of Corry PA, and Kirk Smith of Greene Maine; three sisters: Diane Christianson, Jeannette Fuller, and Gwen Smith, all of Bear Lake PA.
Norman was preceded in death by his mother Natalie smith on December 7, 2017, and his father Manford Smith on September 28, 1970; his sister Elaine Windrel and an infant sister, a sister in-law, Joan Smith; an infant brother; a brother in-law Jerry Christianson; and an uncle, William Daglish.
In keeping with Norman's wishes no memorial service or visitation will be observed.
