Obituary of Lamonte P. Kennedy

Lamonte P. "Monte" Kennedy, 82, of Ashville, NY, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 in his home surrounded by family. He was born in Jamestown Sept. 9, 1941, the son of the late Herbert J. and Ruth Lindahl Kennedy. Following high school, he served in the US Army from 1961 to 1964. Monte was employed by Motorola for many years with the responsibility for regional sales of pagers. He was awarded numerous accolades from the company for his performance. He was such a wonderful communicator, and in his later years this continued with his regular writing to his many friends and family members. Monte loved fly fishing and became an expert in the art of fly tying. He was the founder of Kids on the Fly and taught many local children how to fly fish and introduced them to the art of fly tying. He developed friendships with owners of fly-tying companies and they would regularly send him supplies to share with his students. Monte's love of fishing brought him to Alaska, Montana, and many local creeks and streams. In later years, Monte and Marilyn made daily trips to Burger King in Lakewood, where they would sit for hours enjoying the company of many friends. Surviving is his best friend and love of his life of nearly 40 years, Marilyn Sundlov; son, Bryan Kennedy of Lakewood; stepsons, Brian (Sandra) Sundlov and Craig (Lisa) Sundlov, both of Ashville; four grandchildren: Joshua Sundlov of North East, PA, Jared Sundlov (Shaina) of Lakewood, Allyson (Alex) Skraba of DuBois, PA, and Jadon Sundlov of Ashville; and six great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna K. Bakewell in 2020. At Monte's request, there will be no visitation hours. A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, or to the Ashville Fire Dept.
