Obituary of Everett E. Swan

Everett E. Swan, 88, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at his home in Ellery, NY. He was born February 22, 1936 in Point Chautauqua, NY, one of twelve children of the late Hugo and Mary Jones Swan. Everett honorably served in the Navy Reserves from 1953 to 1961. He then began a successful lifelong career as a self-employed general contractor. He was later joined in the business by his two sons moving houses and specializing in area lakeshore work on both Lake Chautauqua and Lake Erie building break walls, jetties, and piers. Everett was loved and will be missed by all. Surviving is his wife, Joan Shelgren Swan with whom he celebrated their 65th anniversary on May 29th, two days prior to his passing. Also surviving is a daughter, Wendy (David Nelson of Bonnieville, KY and two sons, Craig Swan of Dewittville, NY and Brian Swan of Sinclairville, NY; two grandsons, Roger (Sabrina) Nelson of Bonnieville, and Aaron (Lockhee) Nelson of Leitchfield, KY; and four great-grandchildren, Xzander and Zavier Nelson, and Aiden and Ena Nelson; a brother, Edwin Swan of Syracuse; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is a son, Keith Swan; four brothers, Harold, James, Hugh, and Francis Swan; and six sisters, Evelyn Foster, Edith Gerring, Martha Jean Barton, May Swan, Clara Boland, and Josephine Thomas. Per Everett's wishes, no funeral service or visitation will be observed. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery.
